Synopsis

Mediocre Movies Presents…Predator.

This mediocre movie had promise, but alas, Shane Black – who was an actor in the original predator film – should have kept the predator fishnets (yes, we know that sounds bad without context) in his cupboard where they belong. As far as dumb action flicks go, Predator is a model of the genre – cavalcades of violence, occasionally witty quips and one-dimensional characters propel a simultaneously confusing, uncomfortable and unimaginative plotline, and it can be a lot of fun if you’re in the mood for it. Not to mention, it hits every diversity quota Hollywood asks for, predator and all.

The narrative pacing is wonky enough that action-junkies end up getting their fix halfway through the film, so there’s some setting up of the dumb story that needs to take place before the bullets start whizzing past heads, but after that the action is very much in-your-face. And the jokes – rarely do we feel like walking out of a room due to the heavy cringe-factor, but yeesh. There are a few that hit the mark though, thankfully.

Watch this Mediocre Movie if…you like jokes with swear words, silly but fun alien carnage right here on earth (in the ‘burbs, even), and are a sucker for the cool gadgets that the suavely dressed Predators dice up their prey with.
