Synopsis

Greg McMahon (Brad Pitt), seasoned General and recognised for effective leadership in the Iraq war is sent to Afghanistan to end an ongoing war there. Despite being told otherwise, McMahon’s big idea is to win Afghanistan by recruiting more soldiers and resources to win the hearts of Afghanis. The argument is that with America, the country can redevelop the economical, political and social constructs they have just destroyed through war.

Recruiting an Aghani citizen to assist relationship building with the locals on the ground, McMahon’s team are trying to convince the locals that through pacification, life will be better. This idea is easier said than done however and his speeches are barely convincing after the plan doesn’t go so smoothly. If thinking that their efforts were not bad enough, the team recruit reporter from Rolling Stones to follow their every move. Can McMahon actually convince an entire country to submit?

Plotline aside, this film is an okay rendition of one of the many war-related films Pitt has been in. It sounds like he must have smoked 100 cigarettes in a day or spent too much time on the karaoke machine for this film because his characters deep croaky voice doesn’t ease up.

Watch this mediocre movie if… you love Brad Pitt, and especially if you love him in a uniform. This DILF is always worth a watch in my eyes. Further to this, you’ll learn a little about the other side of the war, as it’s ending, which is unique to many films that throw you into the centre of it.
